We all have our addictions. Bad habits. Obsessions. Bad comfort, good things gone bad, abuse, enslavement, bent, leaning, some thing.
Things that we under-do or over-do. Or things that are not good to do at all.
This morning i was thinking about all the people that can't get by without coffee. I don't do caffeine anymore, and just like a smoker that has quit smoking, i see the obsession and addiction. Most people would not think twice to encourage someone to quit smoking. It has been on the outs for quite some time now. But, coffee drinking has probably reached a new high in popularity. Most people actually brag about how much they need it. Go figure.
This afternoon, i read a post by Linda C. at Linda's Patchwork Quilt about Weighty Matters. And it reminded me of my own area of good eats gone bad. The balance of eating and moving has tipped a little heavy on the eating side. I could truly identify with her struggle.
Most people don't like to talk about their hang-ups. Unless it's popular and accepted. If you are into drinking, it feels okay if you hang-out with others who are into drinking. But, continuing something that is out of balance, or what God may be speaking to your heart about, can cause problems. Often we don't think that our actions may be a problem to someone else. Even if it is something that looks to only be hurting the one doing it. But, what we do truly does influence others.
So, when we come to a place that we see a way to do something differently that may be of help, it's a good idea to join with others for support. Or to ask others to support or join you. That is what Linda is doing. So i think i will join her and see how it goes. A little encouragement for one another can go a long way.
